2011 Lincoln MKX Luxury Crossover Debuts in Detroit

Early on, the news on the 2011 Lincoln MKX was good, but after the recent reveal of the model, it is looking even more impressive

with the likelihood of being a winner in the marketplace. You may love or hate the styling, with the "high forehead" and "big-tooth" front fascia, but the real story lies on the inside, from the interior detailing and features to what lies under the hood.

That hood conceals a 305hp 3.7L powerplant with 280 lb-ft of torque, which utilizes the Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) technology that is also being used in the 2011 Ford Mustang. The Ti-VCT technology is unique in that it strikes a nice balance between power and fuel consumption. Even with the high horsepower and torque ratings, the MKX still achieves 9.4L/100km on the highway. <Read More>

2010 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost Road Test Review

Long ago, Lincoln represented the top-of-the-line vehicle lineup for the "Blue Oval" Motor Company (Ford).  As time went on,

the marque seemed to fade from glory as the company's benchmark luxury brand and its mainstay, the Continental, was relegated to serve primarily as a livery vehicle.  On top of that, along came Ford models that were deemed just as luxurious, with some models surpassing the once mighty Lincoln.

Well, that was then, and this is now, as the Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Company has once again climbed back up onto the ladder's upper rungs in terms of luxury and performance.

The 2010 Lincoln MKS sedan is a perfect example of Lincoln's new excellence, and will reign as the division's flagship.  The MKS comes with a choice of two powertrains: a base 3.7-litre, 273 horsepower V6, or an optional 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, which is the first direct-injection, twin-turbocharged engine produced in North America.  <Read More>

   2011 MyFord Touch Automotive Interface

There used to be a time when radio stations were selected by pushing on flimsy black plastic tabs that jutted out from the radio console. The radio dials were also analog, and you were forced to control the temperature in a car by tweaking knobs every two minutes to avoid freezing or heating yourself into great discomfort.

Well, those days are clearly gone and today we find ourselves in a place where our cars are quickly transforming

into something that feels more like an iPhone on four wheels than a mechanical beast meant for transportation alone. The software that runs our vehicles is evolving in such a way that it threatens to forever change our antiquated notions of how we interact with our cars, and the company that is leading the charge into a reinvention of your dashboard more than any other, is Ford.

Ford began this journey into the unknown with Microsoft as a partner, using the Microsoft Auto platform as a basis for Ford Sync, which debuted in 2007. The most recent offering from Ford named, MyFord Touch, is a complete redesign on the interface that Sync once had, still retaining Sync as its beating heart. When Ford designed Touch, they pulled from all the existing entertainment and home electronic platforms and sought to seamlessly integrate their designs into a single, simple control system. As part of the redesign process, the dashboard has also been rebuilt to make it more intuitive with their iPhone on four wheels approach.

2010 Lincoln MKT Road Test Review

Lincoln has an entirely new brand attitude lately, a clear identity that it hasn't enjoyed in decades. When I grew up, you could

see a Lincoln coming from a mile away, its protruding waterfall grille a dead giveaway and spare tire trunk hump making its presence known as it went by. Now it appears that design inspiration hasn't just come from any waterfall, but possibly Niagara Falls, as its bisected grille depicts twin falls side-by-side, and it's a look that certainly makes Lincoln's cars stand out in a crowd.

Certainly, it's not too often that a totally new design language is born, and then again one that looks this good. Subaru tried with its avionics fuselage and winged grille treatment, which was a major flop and is now gone, whereas rival Mitsubishi scored big with its new upside down frown. Judgment is still out on Mazda's new smiling face, and, to bring things back to the premium category we're speaking of with Lincoln, Cadillac's Art & Science design language has been a rarified landslide of success. <Read More>

2010 Lincoln MKZ Road Test Review

Question: What's luxurious, spacious, quick, sophisticated and is built with American iron?  Answer: the Lincoln MKZ.

The

MKZ was initially unveiled as the Lincoln Zephyr for the 2005 model year.  It's a front- or all-wheel drive midsize sedan designed to compete in the entry-level luxury category.  The Zephyr's name was changed to MKZ in its second year of life, and for 2010 Lincoln has given the car its second refreshing.  The MKZ starts under $37,000 in Canada, and our test vehicle came equipped with all options, including all-wheel-drive, bringing the price close to the $50,000 mark.

New for 2010 is a sportier suspension with stiffer springs and sway bars, darkened headlamps, a new front grille and available 18" polished aluminum wheels.  The new MKZ also offers Lincoln's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which alerts drivers to cars in neighbouring lanes and about oncoming traffic when backing up out of a parking spot.  This system, when combined with the rear view backup camera, makes it easy to reduce potential collisions with cars and objects around you.

Ford Creates Automated Parallel Parking for Lincoln Brand

When one automaker creates a new technology that seems a little unorthodox, we pass it off for an automotive oddity like

foot-actuated radio preset selectors that will probably slip away into oblivion only to be bantered about by eccentric auto writers when looking for news fodder to explain a point, but when another automaker follows up with an advancement on the same technology we sit up and take notice.

Lexus was the first to introduce a self-parking system with its recently revised flagship LS sedan, and while it's far from perfect, the system works. Now Ford has developed a self-parking system of its own for use in its premium Lincoln brand, which is proof that this initiative is driven by pent-up customer demand; there must be a lot of potential customers out there who don't like parallel parking and are willing to pay more for a system to do it for them.

"As we use advanced technology like Electric Power Assisted Steering to improve the fuel efficiency across our vehicle lineup, we have the opportunity to introduce new comfort and convenience innovations like Active Parking Assist," said Ali Jammoul, Ford's <Read More>
