Making the dealer aware that I had the Wholesale Price report sped up a lot of the negotiations.

1. I picked an amount that saved me money compared to the list price while still leaving room for the dealer to earn a living - being reasonable and not greedy. 2. I responded to the dealer who responded quickly and with good content and in a courteous/friendly manner.

Chose the dealer because it's close to home, as for the car, with gas prices rising as they are figure diesel was a good way to go. Brought in the WPR showed it to the Sales Rep.

This salesperson was outstanding. She listened to what we wanted and, when we indicated that we knew the dealer cost, offered to request a further discount, which was approved.

The dealer rep is friendly, patient, and quite knowledgeable. I didn't use the Wholesale Price Report in my negotiation. I was prepared to use it, but didn't need to at all because the sales person accepted my offer. Overall, the report was not too useful to me this time because I was going to offer the price regardless of the info on the report. However, the report did increase my confidence in the price I was offering.

At first he was only giving about $750-$1000. I showed the salesperson a competitor's ad as well as mentioning that a friend had a CCC report. He knew that I was there to get a fair deal after I brought those two tools out. Don Valley VW is a small dealership and you get to know the people really well. I recommend them highly (on Eglinton Avenue East, just east of the DVP and west of Victoria Park Drive).

I chose the dealer because they had a website that lists their new car inventory. We knew the car we wanted to purchase and they had it. The Car Cost Canada pricing helped a lot in preparing us for the purchase. We made a fair offer on the car (4% above invoice - rebate). Unfortunately, the salesperson added back the Freight/PDI/Admin fees to the price after the $2000 cash rebate. During negotiations, we told him very clearly that our original offer included the Freight/PDI/Admin fee (he verbally accepted this offer). When the purchase agreement was produced these fees were added back to the price after the discount was applied. We inquired as to why they were on the agreement, and the salesman resorted to pressure tactics. Unfortunately, we signed. He also asked us to sign a deposit before showing us the purchase agreement. This was a learning experience for us. Bring a pad of paper and write down the entire deal as you negotiate it. Then, make sure the purchase agreement works out the same as your negotiating notes. If they object to you doing this, than they aren't being transparent. If it purchase agreement doesn't reflect the notes from your negotiation, leave the dealership.
