Remember that most dealers have multiple "fees" that are negotiable as well. This dealer had my build when I arrived and we went from there - good service.

Do some leg work/shopping before you buy. Know your prices and what you want. We ultimately went with a dealer sales rep that good service on top of the price others were going to give us and the $$ on our trade in. The sales rep was very responsive with questions we had - considering we were doing the deal remotely. Local dealers weren't as responsive.

Not having wholesale price and dealer incentive information when purchasing a new car puts you at an incredible disadvantage. Knowledge is power. When buying a new car, this power translates into thousands of dollars in your pocket. It is as simple as that. I would not even consider buying a new car without a CarCostCanada Wholesale Invoice report.

Kevin knew the CCC pricing and the rest of the sales procedure was pleasant and easy. I am looking forward to taking delivery of the car in the next few weeks.

MORLEY from London, ON reported on Sunday, August 10, 2008, buying a 2008 Volkswagen GTI, and saving $2,500 off of MSRP.
Leavens is one of my two local dealers and the CarCost Canada recommended VW dealer. The staff was always friendly, courteous, and cooperative - never using any aggressive sales tactics. Regan and Dave were helpful from the very beginning, when I first started researching this car purchase 6 months ago. When it came time to sit down and work out a price, they willingly worked with me using my Price Report and we ultimately negotiated a 4% markup over invoice. It was probably the smoothest, least stressful car negotiation that I've been through. When you take into consideration the $1000 manufacturer-to-dealer "hidden" rebate (which I never would have known about except through my price report!), I was able to get almost $2300 off the MSRP. Bottom line: I paid $100 above invoice. I've been driving a Honda Accord Sedan for the past thirteen years. It was showing its age and it was definitely time for a change! I chose the 2008 Mark V GTI because to me, it was the best all around performer in the small car class - affordable, practical, reasonable gas mileage, and loads of fun to drive. It has received many excellent reviews, both user and professional, as well as a number of awards. All in all, it provided a surprisingly smooth ride with excellent handling, incredible acceleration, and lots of space for hockey bags, sticks and skis etc. Incidentally, my first car was a 1984 GTI and it was truly a fun car to drive (though not without its share of mechanical problems). I guess I've always been nostalgic for that car and wanted to get some of that "driving" excitement back again. The GTI really is a sporty car with "family" practicality to boot. I only hope it will prove to be reliable as this seems to be VW's Achilles' heel. I also looked at Subaru Impreza, Mazda 3, and Honda Civic.

Avoid signing the deal on a Saturday. The dealership was quite busy and we negotiated for over an hour tying up the finance guy

The Wholesale Price Report helped a great deal - especially in bringing my attention to factory-to-dealer incentives that were not advertised anywhere. It also helped the negotiation process insofar as the dealer quickly realized that the higher prices they would normally suggest simply wouldn't be entertained.

Dealer sales representative's personal interest and non-aggressive approach to the sale were important to us. He was trying to match a vehicle to our requirements, not just make a sale. We test drove the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion but ended up choosing the VW Passat for the overall engineering, quality, engine and transmission combination which result in an upscale vehicle that is also fun to drive.

I chose the dealership based on past experience; being an owner of two VW vehicles at any one time. I have been, and remain, very impressed with the quality of service received in both sales and service at this dealership. The sales representative was aware that I had obtained the Wholesale Price Report, and it formed part of our negotiations on the sale price of the vehicle. The information contained within the report was very helpful to my negotiations.

Leavens suggested we bring in the report for our vehicle to allow us to get the best discount. We also found out about the dealer incentives and specials that helped us to choose the vehicle we wanted.
