We negotiated the price of the car first, and when I pulled out the Car Cost Canada report from my briefcase we came to a price without any rancour or tension. The markup was well within the recommended Car Cost margin. We then concluded the trade in value of my car based on the Canadian Black Book value and the deal was simple, with a bit of haggling over the trade value. |  | |

I was looking at a 2008 model due to the favourable financing deals available (0.9%). 2008 models were available in limited numbers and the dealer was chosen because he had the vehicle available, came close to what Car Cost Canada's recommended dealer would offer and the whole buying experience was excellent at Oakville Volkswagen. The Car Cost information allowed me to stick to a price which I felt was fair to both myself and the dealer without giving in to the "sales tactics" of "We just can't make enough profit on your offer". The Car Cost information gave me the confidence to stick to my offering price and not back down. I was able to negotiate on what I felt was a fair price and still take advantage of the financing offer from Volkswagen Canada. | | |
