I found the price report was most helpful in knowing how much room the dealer had to move, rather than as a direct negotiating tool. It gave me a better idea of what a fair price was going to be, before I started evaluating dealer offers. I conducted my vehicle search by sending an RFP by fax to all Buick dealers within 75km of me (about 18 dealers in all), letting them know up front that my fax request for a price on a specific vehicle was also being sent to other dealers, and that my purchase decision would be based solely on price. I could then find out which dealers were serious about offering a fair price and which ones were not. In the end, I ended up with a price that I feel is fair--best price for me, and a reasonable margin (about 3%) for the dealer. In my area, Roy Foss Woodbridge, Bolton Motors, Williamson in Uxbridge and Georgian in Barrie were the most cooperative dealers and had the best prices. |  | |

I chose this vehicle because out of the vehicles I had to choose from, it offered the most features at a price which was within the budget. The brand's reputation for quality was also very important. I went with the CCC-recommended dealer as a starting point. I decided to stay with them due to the attitude and likable nature of the salesperson as well as an obvious willingness to offer a good deal. The Wholesale Price Report was useful in that it gave me the ability to work up from the dealer's cost price (taking into account a reasonable profit margin (3-5%) for the dealer) and give me a substantial discount. It gave me the knowledge of how low of a price I could reasonably expect to get. | | |
