I chose a VW because I wanted a European car and I was definitely not going to buy Japanese. Ended up with VW because of their 0% financing deal. I took the printed report with me and started at the wholesale price knowing full well that it would be shot down. It was. The "haggling" is the toughest part about buying a car I find and the report really helped me to understand that there isn't that big of a mark-up on vehicles. So at least I knew where the starting point would be and I would have to at least pay that. | | |

After visiting the dealership to ensure this was the vehicle I wanted, I emailed all 25 Ontario dealers a proposal indicating the price I was willing to pay for the vehicle using Car Cost Canada as a guide. This proposal was in the form of a excel spread sheet modelled on the dealer's quotes . Dealerships then just entered their counter proposal in the spread sheet and emailed it back to me. I basically purchased this vehicle from the comfort of my Lazy Boy Chair. | | |

He was away but we needed to buy a car immediately. We went to our closest dealer and ended up buying a 2009 Comfort line and not the Highliner (the one we drew up a price report for originally) as Ontario was apparently out of stock on that model. We used the report to get an understanding of their average percentage markup in order to guage their wholesale price on the Comfort line and began negotiating from 3% over wholesale and ended up with a $1,350 off the retail price for the 2009 Comfort Line Jetta Sedan. Other dealers we talked to told us they would only give us a few hundred dollars off. So we're really pleased. | | |

One phone call to Carmen at Town and Country and ended up buying the car over the phone within 10 minutes. Her first offer was $340.00/month. I picked up the car that weekend. If you know you want to buy this car, the most important thing is the bottom line. Don't waste your time with going in and chit-chatting like most sales people want. Just give me a good price like Carmen and tell me when I can pick up the car. | | |
